Science
My kids love science. The oldest are in elementary school, so it’s mostly learning facts and very basic experiments, nothing too complex yet. It’s a great field to have your children interested in, but how can you encourage them?
The simplest way to encourage your child to love science it to allow him or her to do experiments. They can be as simple as mixing a bit of water into corn starch and seeing how that mixture has unusual properties. That said, having a bit of equipment available makes things a lot more fun.
A basic child’s microscope is quite affordable, for example. You can buy basic models for under $20, or spend over $100 for ones with a screen viewer or that can connect to your computer with a USB cord. Once your child has explored how amazing things are with a simple magnifying glass, a microscope is a great next step.
Science is an exciting subject for kids. Things have died down in the last couple of years because of videos games, computers and the internet. But there is still a lot of fun experiments and activities kids will love to do. Some of these kits or experiments are cheap, affordable or don’t cost any money at all. The best thing science will go is getting your kids away from the computers and out learning something new.
Chemistry
Chemistry is an interesting subject in science. It deals with chemical reactions and the study of changes it undergoes. Chemistry Kits are a great way to break the ice in this subject. They usually consist of safe to use chemicals, breakers, test tubes and even litmus paper. These small kits will also come with instruction of easy experiments your kids can do.
Biology
There are many ways in which Fukushima incident has changed our world. It marked an important incident, which showed nature is still the most prevalent force on the planet. When nature’s fury strikes, there is not much that you can do about it; as nature is the most powerful force that can offset any technology that mankind has created. The nuclear power plant at Fukushima was not an exception to this rule, as all the fail safe mechanisms failed one after the another. First the powerful magnitude 6 earthquake occurred and then the corresponding Tsunami overcame all the technological defenses of Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant. As a result, the cooling system collapsed and this led to series of events which led to the overheating of the nuclear reactor core. Luckily, the system’s fail-safe mechanisms in concordance with Japanese emergency efforts allowed a bigger catastrophe to be averted.
As I have approached many people about how to teach kids how solar power works I discover more that adults also need some answers.
One of the main questions I get about everything from home solar panels to solar garden lights and water pumps is “how long can solar power run my lights, pump, home, etc.”
There are a variety of answers depending on your own situation, for instance what type of battery storage are you using if any? For the solar garden lights you have a battery in the light that recharges during the sun hours of the day and discharges at night to power the light. After several cloudy days the lights do dim. However, if there was more energy storage or another battery, the light would last longer.
Ever since machines were invented, the world has depended largely on fossil fuel as its main energy source. Coal, fuel and natural gas are examples of fossil fuel and they are called non-renewable energy mainly for the reason that they are derived from limited resources. Aside from being expensive due to its limited supply, fossil fuel is also hazardous to the environment.
It is for these reasons that much research has been done and is still being done to possible alternative energy resources. According to scientists, alternative or green energy is better as opposed to non-renewable energy because the resources from which these energies are derived from will never run out.
Aside from the fact that it can always be replenished, it has also been proven that energy that come from green energy resources produces little or no pollution at all. To help you understand the concept of renewable green resources better, here are some examples.
